The 2013 Dodge Viper SRT: Up Close and Personal

The all new Dodge Viper SRT certainly looks lean and mean. It’s demeanor and sleek new body style indicate its readiness to rip up the road. This two-seater coupe or soft top roadster undeniably represents Detroit’s finest, but with a noticeable Fiat twist. The redesigned exterior immediately grabs your attention and invites you to have a whole new Viper experience. You’ll notice that the roof extends and tapers off toward the rear of the car. It comes with forged aluminum wheels and Pilot Sport tires from Michelin. In fact the front tires are wider by 20 mm. It still has the race car appeal of the Viper RT/10, but with a more aggressive detail.

The interior is mostly function forward, but Dodge certainly didn’t neglect style and comfort. The driver seat can recline up to thirty degrees and has over forty inches of leg room. One of the most interesting additions to the latest model is the storage compartment with retractable cover for iPads and other smart gadgets. It’s also nice to finally see a cup holder in the cabin of a true sports car. The leather-wrapped steering wheel feels natural and can launch Uconnect, audio, speed and display options with a push of a button. Basically, there’s soft leather and vinyl everywhere you touch.

The Dodge Viper has an awesome 8.4 Liter V-10 engine that provides a superior class performance. The new Dodge Viper has definitely found a comfortable, commercial ratio between speed and stability. Yet it can still reach top speeds of over two hundred miles per hour and travel from zero to sixty in a staggering 3.7 seconds. The Viper features an electronic, multi-port fuel injection system that maxes out at over 600 horse power and nearly 600 pounds of torque force. The engine is mostly aluminum, with forged aluminum pistons, heads, crankshaft and flywheel. Although the engine has cast iron liners, its still an aluminum block. You can tell from the compact design and the aluminum X brace that the Viper has lost some weight. In fact, Dodge boasts that the newer model is one hundred pounds lighter than its predecessors and its competitors.

The Dodge Viper’s suspension and handling has improved leaps and bounds over the years. Earlier models have been known to tail spin all around on the road, but the Viper SRT is different. The Viper has a redesigned four wheel independent suspension system to manage all that tourque. It features high performance, cast aluminum coil springs paired with gas-charged shock absorbers. The Launch Control button is conveniently located on the steering wheel and gives you a wheel slip traction control option.
