324.8bhp at 9230bhp
and more to come
The whole Powertec team are in a daze. We can't believe how good the RPA engine is. After only three hours of running, with the inlet openings 5mm dia. too small, without full throttle, and only revving the engine to 9,000rpm (not the 10,500rpm the engine is designed to run to) the RPA produced 325bhp and a maximum torque of 190ft lbs. at 7,000rpm.

Ted Hurrell is ecstatic: 'The first power runs could not have gone better, we will definitely beat our target of 350bhp and 200ft. lbs of torque. The engine has extremely flat power and torque curves which will make the motor extremely driveable. The engine has little vibration and the sound is just awesome, like no other engine!'

She Runs!!! - 1st October 2004 (11:00am)

The Powertec RPA V8 ran for the first time today (Thursday 30th September 2004) and didn't miss a beat. During the initial bedding-in process the engine was run for several minutes at 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 thousand revs at a small throttle opening. Even so the engine produced over 130ft lbs. of torque.

exhausts glowing red hot!
Powertec boss Ted Hurrell was ecstatic, 'It's fantastic, she runs like a dream!' he explained. 'Tomorrow we start the serious work, but first we have to complete the running-in process and then slowly build up to maximum power runs. During the hour the engine was running this afternoon, the engine performed very smoothly, the fuelling was perfect, all eight exhausts gas temperatures were good and all oil temperatures and pressures were as expected.'

It is anticipated that the RPA will spend several days in the dyno room before being mounted into the chassis with the new Powertec-Quaife transaxle and then run on the rolling road.
