Ready to Rumble

28th September 2004

The final build of the RPA motor is complete. Powertec boss, Ted Hurrell, and engine designer, Steve Prentice are finally happy that the engine is ready to run. The only parts that Ted is waiting for is the throttle body assembly, which injection specialists, Jenvey Systems are manufacturing.

The bank of Powertec-manufactured pumps can clearly be seen on the right of the engine. Nearest is a high-power water pump which is connected to four scavenge pumps, and two oil pressure pumps.

A high-output alternator is mounted on the front right of the motor, driven by a poly V-belt. Just behind, you can see the counter-rotating balance shaft housing, and starter motor mounting lugs.

The RPA is fitted with a single-plate AP Racing clutch, ready for mounting in the engine dyno.

Fully-dressed as you see here, plus the starter motor, the RPA motor weighs in at an amazing 95kg. All being well, the motor will run at the end of the week.
