Radical V8 Progress Report - September 2004

Powertec Chief, Ted Hurrell, has completed the first dry build of the new Powertec RPA (Radical Powertec series A) V8 2.6 litre motor.

Ted explains, “we will assemble and disassemble the motor two or three times to ensure everything fits together properly, and to learn the best sequence in which to assemble the engine.

So far, everything fits spot on. We are just awaiting the balance shaft housing, and oil pump drive shaft, and we will be able to finalise the assembly of a complete engine.”

Chassis installation is also well advanced. An engine and chassis are now at BTB, Radical’s exhaust and silencer manufacturer, to tool up for the SR8 exhaust system.

A cast aluminium plenum, with twin butterflies, and eight injectors is also nearing completion. The RPA is on target to run at the end of September.

Phil Abbott, RPA project leader, can regularly be seen, pacing up and down outside Powertec’s workshop, with a can of petrol and a silly grin on his face!
