Radical European Masters -; Barcelona success
The first round of the Radical European Masters Series was a great hit with over thirty Radicals in attendance.

The event was supported by Radical distributors in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain with the UK factory also in attendance.

Three new 460 bhp SR8 LM’s and two SR5’s ran for the first time, with the remainder of the grid comprising SR8 and SR3 (with both 1500cc and 1300cc engines).

After qualifying Manuel Castro & Jean-Yves Mallat headed the SR8 LM’s, Derek Johnston & Stuart Moseley the SR8, Wayne Douglas & Jeff Collier the 1500cc SR3’s and Jay Boyd the 1300cc SR3’s.

Staggered pit stops ensured that each class had an equal opportunity of crossing the line first, but it was Bernd Rübig who won the day in his SR8 with Manuel Castro & Jean-Yves Mallat a close second in a SR8 LM. Mindaugas Neliubsys was forth overall and first in the SR5 class with Jeff Collier & Wayne Douglas sixth overall and first in their 1500cc SR3, but only after Horst Felbermayr retired his SR3 on the penultimate lap.

Other noticeable performances came from series organiser Christian Drop who finished 8th overall in his SR3 and Radical France’s first foray into racing netted them a second in class for Nicolas Powilewicz & Phill Capdevielle in their SR3 1300.

Race two was just as action packed. The overall first and second went the same way as in race one with Bernd Rübig on the top step and Manuel Castro & Jean-Yves Mallat on the second, but third overall this time was Horst Felbermayr in his SR3 1500. Lone PR6 drivers Nigel Morrison & Jamie Patterson netted forth spot with Radical France’s Nicolas Powilewicz & Phill Capdevielle grabbing a win in the SR3 1300 class despite a stop & go penalty for an early pit-stop.

After a fantastic first round, expectations are high for the second round to be held at Monza on the 25th – 26th April.
