Driver Michael Vergers, piloting a street-legal Radical SR8, ran the 13-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit in just 6:55, breaking the 7-minute barrier for the first time. The SR8, propelled by a 360 hp V8, was running Dunlop Direnza tires. Here’s what Vergers had to say of the record-setting run:
“We didn’t have a great deal of time to set the car up for the run and due to the weather closing, in I only really had one crack at it. Even on that lap I had to drive around the outside of a Mercedes coming onto the main straight, so there’s plenty more to come. The car is awesome, carrying unbelievable speed through the high speed turns – if we had fitted slick tyres we could knocked more than 30 seconds off this time.”
The SR8 is produced by Radical Sportscars, a UK-based company founded in 1997. Their SR9 has run the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
